Interview with Dr. Fitch

Interview with Dr. Fitch : Get to know Dr. Fitch

Originally from Rochester, Minnesota,
Dr. Fitch graduated from the University of Minnesota (B. Sc.) and the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Minnesota Dental Association and Southern District Dental Society. He is a graduate of The Society for Occlusal Studies.

Question - What have been the most exciting advances in dentistry in the last twenty years?

Dr. Fitch - There are two very significant developments that come to mind.

The first is that we now understand so much more about how disease processes really work. From that we have been able to develop much more effective treatment techniques and diagnostic tools. For instance, the advances in digital x-ray have made early cavity detection much better.

The second is that we have much better and predictable treatment techniques and materials. For example: tooth whitening is now a very common treatment. Years ago, due to the harsh materials of the time and difficult techniques, most dentists avoided the idea completely.

Now this is very easy, simple, safe and predictable thing to do for our patients.

Question - How is tooth whitening done now?

Dr. Fitch - We offer two methods.

One is a simple, safe, in-office treatment with some wonderful materials that work very well. We have excellent control of what is happening to your teeth.

Or, we can make perfectly fitted trays that fit on your teeth. These fit over your teeth and hold the whitening agent. This is a take-home kit that comes with everything you need to do this at your convienience. We check your progress to ensure that you are doing well and getting the result you want.

Question - What do you see as the people's dental needs today?

Dr. Fitch - Dentistry has been good for many. People are generally healthy.

They seek to remain that way with regular care and good prevention. Some also want to improve their smile. Others have more complex needs. They may require more comprehensive treatment to regain the healthy smile and comfort. We cannot forget children. Like adults, most are healthy and need the check-ups, cleaning, fluoride treatments and sealats. Of course, some will need restorative treatments or minor tooth guidance to avoid or reduce future orthodontic treatment. All of this is much easier now than it was when their parents were children.

Question - What has been the best part of dentistry?

Dr. Fitch - That has to be meeting and getting to know so many nice people.

I believe that the best treatment is achieved when we plan your care together. I enjoy this relationship. It is always a pleasure to work with a friend.

Question - Are there any frequently asked questions?

Dr. Fitch - Oh yes. I value knowledge.

The more that you know about your health and health care the better your decisions will be. And thi s means that we can work together. Instead of going on for many more pages here and still not covering all the questions. I have found an excellent link with sound information (in plain English!) You must check this out.
